2010 RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS IN THE MAGHRIB FOR NORTH AFRICAN SCHOLARS

The competition is open to Maghribi citizens who are conducting research for a doctoral dissertation or are post doctoral or senior scholars.

The CEMA /CEMAT /TALIM Research Fellowships for Maghribi Scholars are open to citizens of Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia.

Application deadline is January 31, 2010.

The American Center of the American Embassy, the Centre d’Etudes Maghrébines à Tunis (CEMAT), and the Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches Economiques et Sociales (CERES) announce three to five research grants for Tunisian citizens, for Summer-Fall 2010, in American Studies (language and literature, social sciences, culture, economics and law). Projects should be for four to six weeks. US travel should take place between July 1 and December 31, 2010.

Eligible candidates:

-  Doctoral candidates who are registered in Tunisian universities, doing theses on American Studies topics and wishing to do research in the US; or

-  Scholars who teach American Studies at the post-secondary/university level and wish to do research for American Studies course development and/or enrichment.

-  Eligible applicants are those who have not previously received a travel grant to the US; preference will be given to candidates who have not been to the US before.

Each Grant includes:

-  A subsidy of $4,000 toward travel, living costs and book purchases.

-  Assistance in contacting appropriate scholars and universities in the US.

Application dossiers should include the following items:

-  A CV (in English) including your name as it appears on your passport; gender; birth date, place and country; residence address; telephone and email; medical, physical or dietary considerations; educational degrees with institutions and completion or projected completion dates; work experience (including current position and work address); relevant publications; previous experience in the US; family residing in the US; language skills and levels of fluency (including English).

-  A presentation (in English) of not more than three single-spaced or six double-spaced pages, describing either your doctoral thesis project or the course(s) you propose to develop, what information you need to collect, the professional and personal benefits of research in the US, and in what place(s) you would most like to do the research.

-  A letter of reference in either English or French.
